The Pho Shop has received mixed reviews recently from San Diego newspaper critics. One review from the San Diego Union-Tribune, published in January 2020, gave a positive review of the restaurant's pho saying, "The broth is deep and flavorful...the rice noodles are fresh and chewy." Another critic, however, wrote for Eater San Diego in November 2019 claiming that the dishes lacked authenticity writing, "I can't help but feel like I am eating a caricature of Vietnamese cuisine."
Customer reviews have been equally mixed. On Yelp, one reviewer praised the restaurant's "amazing pho" while another complained about the small portions of meat and underwhelming flavors. A Google reviewer said they enjoyed the casual atmosphere of The Pho Shop but felt that it was overpriced.
Despite some criticisms, The Pho Shop seems to have a loyal fan base among customers who appreciate its modern take on traditional Vietnamese dishes.
