As many of you know, Fannie Lou Hamer serves as our organization’s North Star and inspiration for everything we do. Every year, we host our Fannie Lou Hamer Legacy Celebration - our signature year-end fundraiser - that not only honors her legacy, but also recognizes and celebrates community activism. This year, we’re pleased to announce the celebration will be held December 8th at the Mission Trails Visitor Center, a stunning venue that highlights San Diego’s natural beauty and history.
As a special tribute to Mrs. Hamer’s legacy, discounted Early Bird Tickets for the Fannie Lou Hamer Legacy Celebration are now available! The ticket price for this event is $75, but from now through October 6th, 2026 (Fannie Lou Hamer’s birthday), tickets will be sold at a discounted Early Bird price of $60. It pays to buy early, and every ticket sold supports our food justice mission in greater Southeastern San Diego.

Full market schedule this week for the People’s Produce MFM, with some hyperlocal highlights including bananas grown at the Mt. Hope Community Garden, and Curly kale harvested from Solwazi’s Farmacy. We also will have some homegrown herbs from Cristina’s Corridor available for $2.95/bag. Reminder that we have our upcoming Community Work Day at Uvas Wellness Garden this Saturday, 9/26 from 9am to 11am - join us for some weeding, planting, mulching, and community camaraderie!

The Food Justice Soirée is back! Join as at the Mt Hope Community Garden on Tuesday, October 20th for an evening event celebrating National Food Day and those who support food justice and creating access to good food. Tickets are on sale now, and all proceeds support our food justice work in Southeastern SD. Food, live music, drinks, local artwork, and good times….all for a great cause!

Today just happens to be National Guacamole Day, and lucky for you we have you covered with a delicious selection of Hass avocados on the People’s Produce MFM this week!
Also, now that the truck is back in full swing we’re in need of some do-gooders in our community who are able to volunteer at some of our mobile farmers markets - it would be for a couple hours at one of our market sites helping with general setup and overseeing the customer surveys as part of our Community Chest token program. This Saturday, 9/19 join us for a potato-planting Community Work Day at Mt Hope Community Garden🥔!! We have a special section cleared and ready and can use all the we help we can get in planting some Yukon Gold and Red potatoes. Great way to get some some outdoor activity and connect with community. Open to all - join us!

Seats are still available for our September Wellness Journey this Sunday 9/13 (plus the weather should be cooler!) as we travel up to Vista to spend the afternoon with Chris Burroughs at Garden 31. If you’re unfamiliar with Chris’ story and how he founded Garden 31, definitely check out our PROJECT:Good Food podcast with him from earlier this year. Amazing story of second chances, healing , and finding purpose through service and community action. Chris founded Garden 31, a San Diego County-based non-profit, to provide training and mentorship in regenerative agriculture and life skills to at-risk youth and adults. The garden space is beautiful, and we’re excited to once again bring community members to explore and experience what he has created!

Good news! The People’s Produce Mobile Farmers Market is back - we have a limited amount of markets this week, but we’ll be back with a full schedule next week!
