We know everything feels heavy and trying to get through with day-to-day life sometimes feels pointless, with what’s going on around us.

We still need to surround ourselves with joy, support and uplift the good and stand up to injustice. Joy is a form of resistance.

That’s where our compassion separates us, we care deeply for all sentient beings, from the ground up! Let’s remind ourselves of the mission, that little change is still change, let’s plant seeds of hope instead of hate. 🫶🌱 💗

Chicago Native Foods will be closing our doors for good on Friday, November 28.
When we became employee-owned in November 2023, we stepped into that chapter with pride. We showed up for both the vegan and non-vegan communities, hosted events, and celebrated milestones that truly mattered.

But downtown Chicago has changed in ways that directly impacted us. The closure of several nearby businesses and the major shift to work-from-home drastically reduced the foot traffic we rely on. Those challenges made it impossible for us to sustain operations, despite our team’s dedication and effort.

We’re grateful for every customer who supported us, every event you shared with us, and every moment you helped build in this space.

Our final day of service is Friday, November 28.

The good news is our Glendale, CO and Palm Springs, CA locations remain open and continue serving their communities with the same heart and mission.
Thank you for being part of our story.

Our team pours their hearts into every plate, and this change gives them one much-needed day to rest, recharge, and reconnect — so we can come back every Monday ready to serve you even better.

What people say

Native Foods, located on Balboa Avenue in San Diego, is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant that has gained quite a reputation for its delicious and innovative plant-based dishes. While it is unfortunate to hear about the closure of their Clairemont Mesa location, we can still look forward to enjoying their incredible offerings at their Point Loma branch.

One of the standout features of vegetarian/vegan restaurants like Native Foods is their commitment to providing wholesome and nourishing meals that are not only good for our bodies but also for the planet. With a focus on using fresh and locally sourced ingredients, Native Foods ensures that every dish is bursting with flavor and packed with nutrients.

The menu at Native Foods is incredibly diverse, offering a wide range of options to cater to different tastes and dietary preferences. From mouthwatering burgers made with plant-based patties to hearty bowls filled with grains, vegetables, and protein-rich legumes, there is something for everyone here. Their creative twists on classic comfort foods are particularly impressive, showcasing the culinary expertise of their talented chefs.

One dish that deserves special mention is their famous Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger. Made with a juicy seitan patty topped with melted cheese, crispy bacon tempeh strips, and all the fixings you would expect from a traditional burger, this vegan delight will leave you craving more. The flavors are so well-balanced that even non-vegetarians will be blown away by how satisfying it is.

In addition to their delectable main courses, Native Foods also offers an array of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and desserts that are equally delightful. Their sweet potato fries are perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making them an irresistible side dish. And don't forget to save room for dessert! Their dairy-free chocolate mousse parfait is pure indulgence without any guilt.

The ambiance at Native Foods is warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for both casual lunches and intimate dinners. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to assist with recommendations or answer any questions you may have about the menu.

While we are sad to bid farewell to their Clairemont Mesa location, we can take solace in the fact that Native Foods will continue to serve their exceptional vegetarian and vegan cuisine at their Point Loma branch. So, if you're in the mood for a delicious plant-based meal that will leave you feeling satisfied and nourished, be sure to visit Native Foods on Balboa Avenue.
