Thank you to everyone who has continued to support Vegan Bloc. Although we did not celebrate or make much noise, June marked our 1 year anniversary. Along with that, we re-certified our kitchen permits and paid our fees. However, as we move into this new year, we find that some transparency might be helpful for those who are unaware of MEHKOs and what our company represents.
1. Vegan Bloc is a Microenterprise Kitchen (MEHKO). We use our permitted home kitchen to make our food. Our kitchen has been inspected by the County of San Diego. Our record number is DEH2022-FFPP-015022.
2. MEHKOs are not allowed to post business signage outside of their homes. For those who have been lost or confused finding us, I apologize for this inconvenience. This has been a point of contention for me as well.
3. Unlike brick and mortar restaurants, we face many unique limitations. For example, we are limited to serving 60 meals a week.
4. Vegan Bloc is a small business run and operated by one person, who is also a graduate student, counseling intern, and most importantly a parent to homeschooled children. Although I might recruit the occasional help, e.g., delivery driver hubby or graphic designer best friend, there are limitations to what one person can do. Vegan Bloc is a venture of the heart. My goal is to offer affordable vegan pizza to those who will allow me to cook for them. Every ingredient in my pizzas take time and effort, and my intention is for that to carry over to the final presentation.
5. Why Preorder? Besides the limitations imposed upon us (60 meals/week), another reason Vegan Bloc is preorder only is due to my own time commitments and minimizing waste.
Thank you for those who took the time to read this. I want to thank everyone who has allowed me to cook for them. I hope that I can continue to do so.
Starting this fall, we will only be open one day a week. We are hoping to have on-demand orderings alongside our usual preorders. Stay tuned!

What people say
Vegan and vegetarian restaurants have been gaining popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Not only do they offer a healthier alternative to traditional meat-based dishes, but they also provide a more ethical and sustainable option for those who are conscious about their impact on the environment. One such restaurant that stands out in San Diego is Vegan Bloc.
Located on Cartagena Drive, Vegan Bloc is an all-vegan pan pizza microenterprise home kitchen operation (MEHKO). They operate exclusively via pre-order through their website, which allows them to maintain a small operation while still delivering delicious pizzas to their customers.
Their menu offers a variety of mouth-watering pizzas that are sure to satisfy any craving. From classic margherita to BBQ jackfruit, each pizza is made with fresh ingredients and topped with vegan cheese that melts perfectly. And if you're feeling adventurous, they even have a "build your own" option where you can choose your own toppings.
What sets Vegan Bloc apart from other pizza places is their commitment to being cruelty-free. They use plant-based ingredients in all of their dishes and strive to create a welcoming environment for vegans and non-vegans alike. Their dedication to this cause is evident not only in their food but also in their social media posts where they share updates on new menu items and even offer stickers and magnets with their logo.
Overall, Vegan Bloc is a must-try for anyone looking for delicious vegan pizza in San Diego. With their convenient online ordering system and commitment to ethical practices, it's no wonder why they've gained such a loyal following among the local community.
