Meet the man behind the magic. 👨🍳
Chef Jesus Castro was born in La Paz, Mexico and has spent the last 20 years doing what he loves most, creating authentic Mexican food that brings people together. From opening and developing some of San Diego's most beloved restaurant concepts to leading the kitchen here at Ortega's Hillcrest, Chef Jesus brings a lifetime of passion and experience to every single dish that leaves our kitchen.
His love for Mexican cuisine runs deep and it shows in everything we serve. Ask him what his favorite dishes are and he will tell you without hesitation. Agua Chile and Carne Asada. Two classics. Made the right way.

Every Monday we are bringing you half a Maine lobster with rice and beans for just $18. Add steak for $14 or shrimp for $10 and make it a full spread.
Every Wednesday we are doing it differently. Our Lobster Lover Special is a full 3 course date night experience for just $69 per couple. Start with soup or salad, choose your main from Lobster and Steak, Lobster and Shrimp, or Lobster Enchiladas, and end the night with a dessert to share.

To get to this Mexican restaurant on University Avenue in San Diego, you can take the Green Line trolley and get off at the 54th Street station. From there, walk south on 54th Street for two blocks until you reach University Avenue. Turn right and walk for about a minute and you should see the restaurant on your left.
If you prefer to drive, from Interstate 805, take the University Avenue exit and head east for about two miles. The restaurant will be on your left-hand side just past the intersection with 54th Street. There is a parking lot behind the building accessible from 55th street or free street parking in the surrounding area.
