April 27, 2007 — 19 years (twenty by my grandfather’s count)
My grandfather Amedeo had a charmingly unusual way of counting years: while you were celebrating your tenth year, for example, you didn’t say you were ten — you’d already “taken” eleven, because you had begun your eleventh. It’s a small, generous trick that makes everyone feel a year wiser. By that logic, today Pappalecco steps into its 20th year.
We’re not fully celebrating the milestone today — there’s a whole year ahead and next April 27 will be a big one — but this feels like the right moment for a round of applause.
We’re a team of fighters who don’t give up. We love to compete, and we love to win — maybe that’s why our crew includes a true athlete (Kristina, the lynchpin of our team) and a determined Capricorn. Over the years Patrizia, Bora, and Anna + Marina (with their magic, “sugary-and-floury” hands) and many others have poured their hearts into this project. My brother Lorenzo — a true Italian rock who always moves the needle toward an authentic “Boot located in the Far East” — and I are grateful to everyone who helped us grow from a dream into what you see today.
Our name is reaching new cities — Plano, Vegas, and beyond — and we’re still young and ambitious, with plans we’re not ready to unveil yet.
It would be impossible to name everyone who deserves thanks, so here’s the most Italian way to say “grazie”: a huge, warm hug to all of you, from every corner of the world — from those who ordered one shot of espresso to those ordering the six-thousandth today.
