“One conversation with the right person can save you six months of expensive guessing.” 💫

Nik and I used to own a graphic tee line called Quiet Hero that was carried in Fred Segal and Nordstrom, but that was 20 years ago… and the apparel world has changed a LOT since then.

As we get ready to launch Juliet Coffee inside Paleo Treats ☕✨ one of the big questions has been:

Should we make merch beyond just outfitting the team?

So we spent the morning picking the brain of Ryan from + 🎙️🇺🇸

Here’s some of the simple advice that stuck with me:

😊 Start SMALL. Like ~50 shirts small.

✌️One design. Keep it simple.

🍒 Use real sales data to decide what comes next.

⚡️Do as much yourself as possible before scaling.

🙌🏼 All cotton > poly blends. Better feel, better vibe.

🥳 Expect roughly $4–9 per shirt before print and labor.

Honestly though, the biggest takeaway had nothing to do with shirts.

Most business owners are solving the exact same kinds of problems. Talk to other owners. There’s a very good chance someone already figured out the thing you’re currently struggling with.

Also:

You probably know things that feel basic to you… but are genuinely valuable to someone else.

Don’t be afraid to teach it, package it, sell it, or use it as a lead magnet. 🤍

Ryan also recommended the book “Stories That Stick” by which immediately went onto my reading list.

Juliet Coffee is coming soon to Normal Heights inside Paleo Treats. 🌸

A cozy little coffee space built for people who care about ingredients, wellness, art, community, and really exceptional coffee.

We’ll have options for our paleo, keto, gluten free, dairy free, and vegan crowd — while still serving beautiful “normal” coffee drinks for everyone else, too. 💫

Besides working with the Italian company for all our incredible equipment, we are building out our custom reverse osmosis and custom mineral system that’s looking like it will be the best in the country. Coffee is 90% water and we ain’t sleeping on 90%.

Thoughtfully sourced coffee by and . Nourishing ingredients. House-made specialties. A space that feels magical and deeply Normal Heights. We’ll be working with some local favorite brands: , , and Fire Capt Joe’s Bone Broth.

We may have outdone ourselves this weekend.

To get to Adams Avenue in San Diego, you can take the 11 bus from downtown or drive and park along the street. The dessert shop and gluten-free restaurant are located on Adams Avenue, just east of Euclid Avenue. Look for the bright teal building with outdoor seating. If driving, there is limited street parking available, but be sure to check signs for any time restrictions or permit requirements.
