Bekker's Catering, known for its compelling barbecue offerings, has a rich history rooted in the efforts of Dale Worm and his wife, Betty. After serving in the Navy and experiencing World War II, Dale ventured into the culinary world by establishing a barbecue restaurant on Mission Gorge Road in an undeveloped area of San Diego County. Facing initial challenges with local infrastructure, Dale took it upon himself to rally support for extending the sewer system to his new restaurant location, earning him the affectionate title of "The Mayor of Grantville." This determination led to the opening of Roadside Bar BQ in 1958, marking it as the first restaurant on Mission Gorge Road. Over two decades, Dale and Betty served exceptional barbecue while nurturing their family legacy.
In 1978, their son Oscar joined the family business by launching Bekker's Bar BQ just down the road, which allowed for an expanded focus on catering. With his wife Olga joining soon after, they continued to uphold and enhance the family's legacy of quality barbecue and community service.
