Story time! (3-minute read).
How do we package all these operations into one post?
One cohesive story?
Well, I think we can start by breaking it down into pieces.
Our mission | our services | why? | coffee | plants | the recipe for a fun night | You. | Us.
To be honest, we’re learning as we go. This is our first time building something like this.
To have the privilege to connect with so many walks of life from the cafe, conversations shared with a glass of wine, an outdoor smoke, and great music, we wouldn’t have ever imagined finding and nurturing a beautiful group of humans through this intimate space in Hillcrest.
What else do you want to know about us here at the Quiet Storm and team?
We’re here for you and you’re welcome to this space any time (as long as we’re open… and we’re open Monday through Sunday)

THE REASON WE CHANGED OUR NAME (2-min. read):
We're excited to announce and introduce the official re-brand of La Marque Café to its new name, Quiet Storm Roasters & Bakers.
As a family-operation that took ownership of La Marque in August 2020 and re-launched in January 2021, we want to say thank you to the Hillcrest and entire city of San Diego's warm welcome in these last 9-months.
From re-building the storefront after its closed doors from the pandemic, to building an outdoor structure to accommodate for the times, to shutting that structure down (after 78-days) for the bike lane project, all while finding safe methods to gather the original-to-new community for this café, and giving the best we could in producing the best café and plant store experience, we could say its been... a lot.
But it's been a lot for every single one of us... You're amazing.
If you've read this far, thank you.
- Here's the main point:
We're transitioning to a name that has been apart of our lives growing up as first-to-second generation Americans with Filipino + Guamanian roots and values.. With a love and lifestyle for R&B music, entrepreneurship, and practice of hip hop culture.
If you've been to the café, you might of heard the range of songs we play + the events we've produced; all R&B, hip hop, and soul music.
'Quiet Storm' comes from the late night radio segment that featured endless tracks of love-driven R&B and soul slow jams (also the name of Smokey Robinson's 1975 album and Mobb Deep's 1999 track).
Similar to the caliber of love and expression by the artists in that genre, we want to serve that level of love, empathy, and safe space at our café.
In the next few months, we'll be transitioning our new name to all our platforms and making renovations at the café.
All operating times will remain the same and we'll be hosting our next community pop-up in early December.

If you’re new, we’d like to introduce you to our community pop-up event held every other month.
A new showcase of common and rare plant collections along with a launch of café drinks and eats! (Last time, we released our cold brew coffee and champagne mimosa slushees 🍧❄️— since the summer heat is still here, we’ll bring them out again!)

To reach the café located on 5th Avenue in San Diego, there are several options for public transport. The closest bus stop is at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Elm Street, which is served by bus route number 7. Alternatively, you can take a trolley to the Gaslamp Quarter Station and walk approximately four blocks to reach the café.
For those driving, parking can be found on-street or in nearby parking lots. There are several paid parking lots along 5th Avenue as well as on Broadway and K Street. Please note that street parking may be limited and subject to time restrictions. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a convenient spot.
