What does DinnerDelivery.net do?
22 years ago, we were the first meal prep delivery service in San Diego County. Our focus was to bring Zero Effort Meals to Time Starved People. We wanted our food to be delivered fresh (never frozen), customized to our customers' dietary preferences and provide transparency to our customers of who was preparing their food.
What is our revenue model?
We offer a rotating weekly menu where our customers order as many meals that they want delivered. Our menu is a la carte priced. We never offered a subscription option but this can be easily integrated into the site. We required a $45 minimum order and we charged $10.50 for delivery. Our average order size was $75.
How did we market?
Our primary method for customer acquisition was word of mouth. Second was organic searches via Google. Third, social media. Last year's marketing expense was less than $5,000.
Who are our primary customers?
Families with the parents ranging in age from 30 to 65, dual income and have between 2 to 4 children. Our customers value time saving services that support a healthy lifestyle.
How much time do I invest in my company?
Anywhere between 40 to 50 hours per week. This includes time being in the kitchen preparing the meals. We typically began meal prep on a Saturday morning, cook food on Sunday and packaged meals on Monday. Our delivery day was Tuesday of each week. Other days of the week were used for marketing, accounting, etc.
How can the business continue to grow?
I see a four (4) prong marketing approach to continue scaling the business:
Invest more resources into social media posts that provide value added content that position the company's brand as being an expert on how quality food is essential to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Develop menus that cater to unique diets i.e. diabetes and offer more higher profit margin products such as desserts, salads and soups.
Affiliate marketing with existing customers.
Strategic partners that have access to grab and go food kiosks located at businesses and/or fitness clubs.
