I set out to put my dream to a reality and I succeeded, however, the pandemic has thrown me, like many others, too much to be able to sustain a promising future. I love the customers I’ve met and the people I’ve employed that now are part of my amazing family. It’s a sad ending to an amazing adventure, and we all appreciate the support that everyone has shown us throughout this challenging time. We wish the best for you all, and we are ready for what life will bring us next!!!

What people say
Vegetarian and vegan restaurants have become increasingly popular in recent years, as more people are embracing a plant-based lifestyle. Cocina Calavera, located on 4th Avenue in San Diego, is one such restaurant that has gained a loyal following among vegans and non-vegans alike.
What sets Cocina Calavera apart from other vegetarian/vegan restaurants is its dedication to being gluten-free and dairy-free. This means that even those with dietary restrictions can enjoy the delicious Mexican-inspired dishes on offer. The menu is extensive and features a variety of plant-based options, including tacos, burritos, bowls, and salads.
One standout dish that customers rave about is the enmoladas dicorciadas - a mouth-watering combination of chicken tinga or carnitas with red chile molé or green tomatillo molé. And for those who love creamy sauces but can't have dairy, Cocina Calavera makes their own cashew-based cremas in-house.
While the restaurant unfortunately had to close due to the pandemic, owner Josh has found a new home at Mermaids & Cowboys in La Jolla as their new events and marketing manager. Fans of Cocina Calavera can still enjoy Josh's culinary creations at his new location.
Overall, Cocina Calavera is a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious plant-based Mexican cuisine that caters to dietary restrictions. With its flavorful dishes and friendly staff, it's no wonder why this restaurant has become a favorite among locals and tourists alike.
