Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon Weekend is coming through Hillcrest! 🏃‍♀️🎸🏃‍♂️

Every year, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon brings a whole new energy to San Diego — runners, families, supporters, and people from all over coming together to chase their goals, push their limits, and experience the city one step at a time.

This year, the route runs right through our neighborhood and past University Avenue, with runners passing near Hillcrest, Robinson Ave, Sixth Ave, and Balboa Park. We’re grateful to be right here in the heart of it all at 414 University Ave, ready to serve our community, visitors, runners, and everyone cheering them on.

Whether you’re loading up on carbs before the run, grabbing your ritual coffee or matcha in the morning, or celebrating after the finish line with warm comfort food, The Asian Bistro + HYDOUT Café will be here for you.

This restaurant has always been part of the Hillcrest late-night food scene, and our goal is to keep growing, keep improving, and one day bring back the true late-night experience — open until 3AM again for our community. 🙏🏽

We are honored to share that The Asian Bistro was selected by MSG Hospitality to participate in AANHPI Eats Week, a special celebration highlighting Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander culture through food, culture, and community.

For this special week, we created a limited-time curated menu available from May 16 – May 24.

This menu represents what we love to do most — serving food from our roots, made with passion through our chefs, and honoring the flavors that continue to tell the story.

Lunar New Year isn’t just one night, it’s a full season of tradition, hospitality, and shared energy. 🧧🐉✨

Our celebration began February 17 and carried through the 15 days of the Lunar New Year, honoring what this holiday is truly about: resetting the home, resetting the heart, and welcoming the new year with the right spirit.

Before the drums and the lion dance, it starts with preparation:
• Cleaning the house to sweep away the old and make space for new blessings
• Fruit, flowers, and red + gold decor to symbolize abundance, luck, and protection 🍊🌸
• Incense and remembrance, honoring ancestors and directing prayers with respect 🕯️
• Kind words and mindful actions, because how the year begins matters

Then the celebration becomes visible. Tradition in motion.
The lion dance brings meaning and power: good fortune, prosperity, and clearing away negative energy, blessing the space as it moves through the room and out toward the streets. 🥁🐉
And 🧧Lì Xì (lucky red envelopes) continue the tradition of giving.. Not just what is inside, but what it represents: sharing blessings, sharing luck, sharing joy.

Most of all, Lunar New Year is hospitality and love. ❤️
A shared space where everyone is welcome, families, neighbors, first-timers, and regulars all coming together to eat, laugh, take photos, learn the traditions, and start the year surrounded by good energy. ❤️
