What people say
Ethiopian restaurants are known for their unique and flavorful cuisine, and Axum Market in San Diego is no exception. As a local grocery store, they offer a variety of African spices that are imported straight from the motherland. Their selection includes the Ancient Grain of Ethiopia called Teff, which is a healthy gluten-free flour primarily used for Injera (a spongy textured flat-bread) but can also be an ingredient for cookies, bread, cupcakes etc.
Axum Market also offers traditional Ethiopian items such as clay coffee pots known as Jebena, pottery named Sini which are the traditional cups used to drink coffee and stands used in coffee ceremonies where the cups would be placed in. These items add to the authentic experience of dining at Axum Market.
Their spice mix (berbere), powdered chickpeas (Shiro), and even spicier tongue-numbing spice mix (Mitmita) are just some of the many spices available at Axum Market. Most of these spices are imported from Ethiopia, adding a little foreign zest to your ingredients.
If you're looking for an authentic Ethiopian experience in San Diego, Axum Market is definitely worth checking out. Their selection of spices and traditional items will transport you straight to Ethiopia without ever leaving California.
